The UN Environment Programme's International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO)'s Eye on Methane data platform delivers open, reliable and actionable global methane emissions data from satellites, companies and methane science studies — all in one user-friendly interface. It is designed to empower governments and companies to drive impactful methane mitigation action, while providing transparent, reliable data to civil society and media.
Satellite observations alone cannot solve the methane challenge. Only a combination of top-down atmospheric observations with bottom-up measurements can provide a full, verifiable picture of emissions and drive focused action.
IMEO collects, integrates, analyses and publishes measured data from a wide range of sources to detect, monitor, measure, notify and ultimately mitigate methane emissions.
IMEO's team of scientists measures, analyses and validates the data it collects, and notifies stakeholders of methane emissions. It then supports companies and countries who request assistance in implementing mitigation actions.
IMEO built the Eye on Methane data platform to drive climate action. We invite you to use this data to identify and mitigate methane emissions. The data may not be used commercially and is shared under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
Accuracy and scientific rigour are at the core of everything we do. All published data is thoroughly analysed and assured prior to being posted on the platform.
IMEO translates data into practical solutions for reducing methane emissions.
