Release notes

Eye on Methane goes beyond simple emission rates, providing a comprehensive view through density mapping and integrated datasets. This allows users to uncover hidden patterns, understand the bigger picture and drive impactful change.

Version 2.0 – 15 Nov 2025

Highlights & Key features

1. Step by step towards data integration

Eye on Methane combines validated methane data from satellites, industry, and scientific research, creating a powerful tool accessible to all.

By integrating top-down and bottom-up measurements, we achieve more accurate assessments, enabling focused action and increasing impact.

2. User-friendly interface

Explore the map with options to view data by country, OGMP company, or scientific study.

The map displays plumes and emission hotspots detected from satellites in the oil and gas sector, as well as methane plumes in the coal and waste sectors, all analysed by the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) for accuracy.

View the number and location of science studies conducted in each country.

3. Detailed fact sheets

Country fact sheets: Display aggregated emissions data from various sources, including satellite data, data reported through the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), science studies, and publicly reported data. They also show the total number of MARS notifications sent to the country regarding emission events and data quality of oil and gas companies operating in the country.

Company fact sheets: Include a company’s emissions intensity target, total reported emissions for a given year, overall data quality for operated and non-operated assets, and their progression towards OGMP 2.0’s Gold Standard of emissions reporting. Data reported by OGMP 2.0 companies undergo rigorous IMEO review and quality assurance.

4. Science studies

Browse all IMEO science studies conducted to date. Select a study to display a summary report and, if published, a link to view and download the full text.

5. Data accessibility

Download comprehensive methane emissions data in CSV or JSON formats.

Access our API to integrate IMEO data directly into your systems and applications.

6. Notifications and support

Subscribe to email alerts to receive notifications of significant methane events and data updates.

Our expert team is available to support you every step of the way.
