Available data sets
The world's top 50 methane emitters: This data set provides a list of the top 50 largest and most persistent methane sources detected by satellites globally. It ranks sources by emission flux rate for those sources where persistency is high (≥ 0.4) and uncertainty is low (≤.15). The list is updated monthly. Download the world's top 50 methane emitters list, view the monthly snapshot of the world's top 50 methane emitters, country responses and mitigation or refer to the MARS world's top 50 methane emitters data dictionary.
MARS response rate by country: Aggregated statistics on a 12-month rolling average measuring stakeholder response to MARS-notified events. The response rate is a metric that measures the percentage of notified emission sources for which IMEO received feedback from governments or operators compared to the total number of notified sources. This data set provides country-level statistics on notified sources, feedback received and response rates for methane emission sources identified and notified through MARS. The list is updated monthly. Download response rate data or refer to the MARS response rates data dictionary.
MARS sources and plumes: Information on the sources of methane emissions across all sectors detected through MARS, as well as detailed information for every plume detected at each source in CSV and GeoJSON. Please refer to the MARS methane plumes and sources data dictionary for more information.
Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0: This data set contains aggregated data from the OGMP 2.0 company fact sheets, including total reported emissions, the share of emissions attributed to each reporting level and the OGMP 2.0 Gold Standard classification. Updated yearly. Download the 2025 fact sheets (XLS). Please refer to the OGMP 2.0 company fact sheets data dictionary for more information.
Coal Methane Database: Mine-level methane emissions estimates for selected coal mines, including the underlying data used to derive these estimates and an accompanying data dictionary. The data set is updated twice a year. Download the Coal Methane Database data set and accompanying data dictionary.
